Manual Design, Quality Lumber
The Norwood® LumberMate™ is an easy-to-operate, all-manual mill. The result? - Quality lumber. As you advance the blade through the cut, you can feel knots and denser core wood. This means that you can adjust the feed speed to make perfect cuts.
With the LumberMate™, you can cut through hardwood and softwood logs accurately to 1/32nd of an inch - More accurately than many high-priced sawmills.
Standard, the Norwood LumberMate™ can handle logs up to 31" in diameter (77.5cm) and mill boards and beams up to 24" wide (60cm) and 13-feet long (3.9m) (or as long as you need with additional optional 4-foot bed extensions (1.2m)). Many LumberMate™ owners are milling logs 40-feet long or more!
Easy-Operating Counter-Balanced Sawhead
Accurately and effortlessly raise and lower the counter-balanced sawhead with a quick spin of the wheel. Advance the sawhead along the track with only finger-tip pressure.
No Wasted Wood
The LumberMate's narrow-kerf band blade delivers up to 30% more lumber than circular saws … so you produce boards, not sawdust. Also, the LumberMate™ allows you to mill to within 1 inch (2.5cm) of the bed.
The LumberMate™ boasts a rigid bed constructed of 2 ½" x 8" twin debossed-steel rails galvanized for lifetime rust-resistance and 3" x 6" steel box-beam cross-bunks protected by automotive-grade powder coating. The LumberMate comes standard with two log dog/log rest assemblies.
Rugged Carriage Construction
The LumberMate's carriage is constructed of 2½" tubular steel reinforced with steel gussets. The carriage top-frame is shipped fully welded.
Sawdust and Engine Exhaust
Both the engine exhaust and sawdust chute are on the far side of the LumberMate™ … directed away from the operator. So, unlike other mills out there, you don't wade through and inhale sawdust and exhaust fumes when operating the Norwood LumberMate™.
Powder-Coating & Zinc-Plating
Don't settle for just paint. Norwood insists on using only tough, long-lasting powder-coating and zinc-plating for maximum rust-resistance.
The Norwood LumberMate™ is the only customizable mill on the market. Select from 4 engine choices and a multitude of commercial-capacity options. Tailor your LumberMate™ to match your unique needs - Now … or later - It's your choice. So, even if your sawmilling goals are personal to start, you can expand your LumberMate to meet new professional demands that may arise as your milling operation grows in the future.
Equipped with the optional trailer package, the Norwood LumberMate™ is truly portable. Trailer the LumberMate right to the milling site behind your car or truck on the highways or behind your ATV in the woods.
Quick Connect/Disconnect Trailer Design
The LumberMate's trailer package is designed to be quick-connect/quick-disconnect so that, after arriving at the milling site, you can lower your LumberMate right down to the ground in only a few minutes. Why bother? - Because it is far easier, and safer, to load and mill the logs down low. Also, when on the ground, the bed is fully supported all the way along so that you make perfectly straight cuts.
Because Norwood ships the LumberMate™ in knock-down form on a 4-foot x 4-foot pallet (1.2m x 1.2m), you don't pay for inflated labor or shipping charges.
There are thousands and thousands of Norwood LumberMate™ sawmills hard at work all over the world. Many are being used year-round, day-in and day-out under some of the harshest conditions. We build them to work as hard as you.
4-Foot Bed Extension
Standard, the LumberMate™ can mill boards and beams up to 13-feet long (3.9m). Add one 4-foot bed extension (1.2m) and mill logs 17-feet long, add two and cut 21-footers, add seven and square beams 41-feet long! Each 4-foot bed extension bolts permanently to the end of the bed. Additional log rest/log-dog assemblies sold separately. Note: Maximum of two 4-foot extensions permitted in combination with the trailer package.
Toe Board Package
Compensate for the taper in your logs with a set of toe boards. Manually-operated hydraulic bottle-jacks lift even the largest logs. The toe-boards also feature rollers to help you reposition the log lengthwise on the bed. The quick-connect/quick-disconnect design makes moving the toe-boards anywhere along the mill fast and easy. Two units per set.
Lap-Siding & Shingle-Making Package
Make shiplap siding and cedar-shake shingles quickly and easily. With this unique jig, you can cut lap-siding from 7" - 12" wide, with taper-widths down to a feather-edge. Reconfigure the jigs, and you can make cedar-shake shingles 7" - 12" wide and up to 20" long - Each pass makes two shakes. Two jigs per set. Tip: To double production, add an extra set.
Log Loader & Log-Rolling Package
Load large logs onto your LumberMate™ with ease and hold them in place for quick-dogging. Simply pass the cable over and then under the centre of the log, connect to the frame and operate the winch - The log rolls up the ramps and onto the bed. Also, makes rotating (rolling) the log while on the bed a snap to speed up squaring cants. Package includes two ramps complete with repositioning rollers, winch, mast/boom & receiver and log-rolling hook.
Tow your Norwood LumberMate™ fully-assembled right to your milling site behind your ATV or, on the highways, behind your truck or car. Quick-connect/quick-connect design and retractable draw-bar allow you to lower the whole mill right down to the ground for safer & easier log-loading and milling. Package includes independent shock-absorbing torsion axles, 5-bolt full-size wheels, light bar and highway running lights, wiring harness, safety chains and 1?" coupler. Note: Maximum of two 4-foot extensions permitted in combination with the trailer package.
A must if you are planning on doing frequent site set-ups. Makes leveling the bed on the ground much easier and faster. Each set includes 8 leveling feet (sufficient for the standard LumberMate™). Additional 2 leveling feet (1/4 set) required to support each 4-foot bed extension.
Designed to provide quick additional support if you plan on milling small to medium-sized logs with your LumberMate™ up on the trailer package. Each set includes 6 support legs. Note: Norwood recommends lowering the LumberMate™ to the ground when loading and milling logs over 18" in diameter.
Ideal for instant clamping of squared cants and boards with a quick push of the handle. Use your standard LumberMate™ log dogs to clamp your log in the round, and the cam-dogs to clamp squared cants and boards. Designed with a blunt-nose to reduce marring of your lumber. Clamp as low as ¾" above bunk height. Two units per set.
Detachable 2-Foot Bed Extension
Designed to quick-connect/quick-disconnect onto the end of your bed. Cut logs 15-feet long with one detachable 2-foot extension or 17-feet with two units. Ideal for squeezing out extra milling capacity without permanently making your mill longer, especially when trailering.
Saw Carriage Cover
Protect your investment against damage from the elements. Made from the same rugged material used for transport-truck covers, Norwood's carriage covers are rip-resistant, rot-resistant, UV-resistant and pliable even at freezing temperatures. Tailored to fit snuggly over the whole carriage and equipped with an adjustable strap and draw-cords, we've designed the LumberMate™ carriage cover to stay put even at highway-speeds.
Norwood® Blade Sharpener
Save time & money by profiling your blades razor-sharp. Sharpening your blades at least every couple of hours is critical to producing quality lumber & prolonging the life of your blades. The Norwood® blade sharpener profiles the whole tooth, including in the gullets where microscopic stress-fractures cause premature blade failure. Semi-automatic design simultaneously advances and profiles the blade when you turn the crank. Factory-configured to sharpen Norwood's Goldline Premium™ 7/8" pitch blades and comes complete with a package of 6 MTW ceramic-compound stones.
Norwood® Tooth Setter
A sharp, properly set blade will cut straight, smooth and fast and is a pleasure to use. Teeth out of set can score your lumber and compromise your blade's ability to remain straight in the cut. Teeth naturally lose their set over time - A proper blade maintenance program includes routinely checking the set of each tooth and making required adjustments. The Norwood tooth setter is accurate to 0.002" and is factory-configured for 1¼" blades (an optional retrofit kit is available for 1½" blades). Setter includes a dial indicator and 3 support arms.
1½" Blade System
The Norwood® LumberMate™ comes standard with 1¼" blade guide rollers to accommodate Norwood's 1¼" blades. While we believe that 1¼" blades are the ideal all-purpose choice, suitable for milling both hard and softwood logs, you may want to upgrade your mill to the 1½" blade guide system and use 1½" blades if you specialize in milling large hardwoods. System includes two 1½" blade-guide rollers each equipped with two sealed bearings. Note: Available only for 20hp and 23hp-equipped LumberMates™.
Lumber Scale (9/4", 6/4", 5/4" & 9/8")
The Norwood® LumberMate™ comes standard with a 2", 1" & 3/4" depth-of-cut scale with the kerf already calculated in. Invest in this optional scale if you need to make specialty-sized lumber. Note: An optional metric scale (5cm, 4cm & 2cm) is also available.
